I highly recommend anyone considering getting married read this first, you will be happy you did.
This book is both a very personal love note to the author's family and extremely practical advice for anyone contemplating marriage. Darryl Cobbin introspectlvely reflects on how his tough upbringing created almost insurmountable defense mechanisms that spilled over into his relationships and almost ruined the one thing he treasured most, his family.
I wish there was someway to make this requried reading for the granting of a marriage license!
It's not often an author shares such a raw and honest account of personal experience. The insight in this book is both touching and frightening as it brings to light some really common blind spots that are easy to miss and can harm a marriage in a significant way.
I learned, I cried and I vowed to always prioritize my marriage above everything else. It may not always be easy but it's worth the hard work.
I admire Mr. Cobbin and am incredibly impressed by the lessons he shares in the book.

For anyone that wants to save their marriage... and avoid it getting to the brink of divorce I recommend this book. Real wisdom from a real person for a change... who's dealt with real problems having a high-pressure career, marriage and family (with THREE girls!?).. I feel for you man! I loved the part about 'Divorce is Not An Option'. My wife and I drew that line in the sand for our marriage a long time ago and it has served us well too. It's about more than a wedding vow... really it's about grit and character. Loads of it here... Gut wrenching at times.
Thanks for taking a stand. More people should.
With the divorce rate being what it is, this book should be required reading!
The honesty and practicality of this book is so refreshing in a world full of self-proclaimed gurus and fancy titles. I've never read a book that was so relevant and relational to my own personal situation. Nearly every story was relevant to my marriage. In fact, there were times I wondered if the author had been looking through my windows. It connected with my marriage in so many ways, it was scary.
The stories are compelling and heartfelt, and the advice the author gives is not only useful, it's realistic. You can't get this kind of insight from any degree or clinical study. The information and insight the author shares can only be gotten through experience, and I appreciate that aspect.
Practical, insightful, relevant, and realistic. If you're married, or getting married, get this book now!
When I first came across this book, I was really drawn by the title at first. My best friend was about to be engaged, and I was looking for a practical gift that will best celebrate the occasion. So I downloaded Before You Wed and decided to give it a read myself to make sure the content was beneficial. Well, I came across a gem of a book full of wonderful thoughts, ideas, recommendations that really help to shape ones mind, soul and heart for marriage, and all that it entails. The narrative is framed in a very thoughtful fashion that makes reading the book an absolute pleasure. Now, I will not go to much into detail since each person will I'm sure derive there own moments of wisdom within the book, but I will say that I wished someone would of shared this book with me before my wife and I were married. I am proud to say we are living a very happy and healthy marriage, but we also have to navigate a few hurdles early on that could of been avoided had we had a better understanding of expectations. This books provides some much needed prospective on what it means to be married and what it will take to remain in a long lasting loving partnership that will bear great moments for both to share in.
I really like the book. The concept of a father writing to his daughters about the relationship between him and their mother is brilliant. Truly from the heart.
